How to create a contract

4 min read·Beginner

A contract is a recurring agreement with a customer, such as a service plan or a maintenance arrangement. Setting one up records what is covered, the terms and when it renews, so nothing is missed. Here is how to create one.

  1. Open Contracts

From the CRMit menu, open Contract List. This shows every contract you have already set up.

  2. Start a new contract

Click New Contract to open the contract form. It walks you through the details in a few short steps.

  3. Choose the customer

Pick the Customer this contract is for, then give the contract a Title so it is easy to recognise later. You can also set a Printed Title that appears on documents.

  4. Add the contract items

Add the products or services the contract covers as contract items. Each item is a line the customer is agreeing to, so add as many as the agreement needs.

  5. Set the terms and renewal date

Set the Start Date and End Date for the agreement. Then set the Renewal Date and the Renewal Frequency so CRMit knows when the contract comes up for renewal.

  6. Save the contract

Click Save. The contract joins your list, showing when it starts, when it renews and when it ends.

Tip: Link a job to a contract item to track usage against the agreement. That way you can see how much of the contract has been used as work is carried out.

What's next

With the contract in place, you can set up the products it covers or start booking the work it involves.
