How to add a product

3 min read·Beginner

Products are the items and services you sell. Adding a product once means its price, VAT rate and description are ready to drop straight onto a quote or invoice, so you never retype the same details. Here is how to add one.

  1. Open your products

From the CRMit menu, open Product List. This shows every product and service already in your catalogue.

  2. Start a new product

Click New Product at the top of the page. The product form opens with tabs for the different kinds of detail you can add.

  3. Add the core details

On the Details tab, fill in what you sell:

    • Enter the Product Name and an optional SKU code.
    • Add a Description so it reads clearly on quotes and invoices.
    • Set the price. Enter the net figure in Subtotal (net) and the VAT %, and CRMit works out the VAT amount and gross total for you.
    • Tick VAT Exempt if the product should not carry VAT.
  4. Set stock options

If the product is a physical item you want to track, turn on Allow Stock Control. You can then set a Minimum Stock Threshold to trigger a low-stock notification, and choose whether to Allow Backorder. For a service, you can leave stock control off.

  5. Save the product

Click Save. The product joins your catalogue and is ready to add to quotes, invoices, sales orders and jobs.

Tip: Building your catalogue up front makes invoices and quotes much faster to create. Once a product is saved you can pick it from a list rather than typing the line by hand each time.

What's next

With your product saved, you can give certain customers their own price for it, or start putting it on the documents you send.
