How to build a bill of materials

4 min read·Beginner

If you make or assemble products from smaller parts, a bill of materials records exactly what goes into each one. It keeps your costs and stock accurate and makes building or selling the product much simpler. Here is how to set one up.

  1. Open Product BOM

From the CRMit menu, select Product BOM. This opens your bills of materials, where each one links to a finished product.

  2. Choose or create the finished product

Pick the product you assemble, or create it first if it does not exist yet. This is the item the bill of materials describes.

  3. Add the component products and quantities

Add each part that goes into the finished product:

    • Choose a component product from your catalogue.
    • Enter the quantity needed for one finished item.
    • Repeat for every part until the list is complete.
  4. Save the bill of materials

Save the list against the finished product. CRMit now knows exactly what each one is made of.

  5. Use it when you build or sell the product

With the bill of materials in place, you can plan a build and keep component stock accurate as you assemble and sell.

Tip: A good bill of materials keeps your costs and stock accurate. Keep the components and quantities up to date whenever your product changes.

What's next

With the parts listed, you can plan a build and keep an eye on the stock those builds use up.
