How to log time against a job

4 min read·Beginner

Logging time keeps an accurate record of the hours your team spends on each job. When you mark that time as billable, it can flow straight into the job's invoice, so nothing you have earned is missed. Here is how to log time against a job.

  1. Open Time Entries

From the CRMit menu, open Time Entries. This shows the list of time already logged.

  2. Add an entry, or add several in bulk

Add a single entry for one piece of work, or use Time Entries add in bulk when you want to record several entries at once, for example a whole week.

  3. Choose the staff member and the job or task

Pick the staff member the time belongs to, then choose the job or task it should be recorded against. Linking it correctly is what lets the time reach the right invoice later.

  4. Enter the duration and date

Enter how long the work took and the date it happened. Add a short note if it helps explain what the time was for.

  5. Mark it billable

If the time should be invoiced to the customer, mark the entry as Billable. Leave it unmarked for internal or non-chargeable work.

  6. Save

Click Save. The entry is now recorded against the job and ready to be picked up at invoicing.

Tip: Billable time can flow straight into the job's invoice, so mark it as you go. Logging little and often is far more accurate than trying to remember a whole week at once.

What's next

Once your time is logged, you can turn the finished job into an invoice or review where your team's hours are going.
