How to import your data

5 min readΒ·Beginner

If you already keep your customers, products or other records in spreadsheets, you can bring them straight into CRMit rather than typing them in by hand. The import tool guides you through choosing what to import, matching your columns and confirming everything before it goes in.

  1. Open Data Import

From the CRMit menu on the left, select Data Import. This opens the import tool that walks you through the process step by step.

  2. Choose what to import

Use the What are you importing? option to pick the type of record, such as customers or products. You can import a range of record types, one at a time.

  3. Download the template spreadsheet

Download the template for the record type you chose. It has the right columns already set up, which makes matching your data much easier later.

  4. Fill in your data

Add your records to the template, one row per record. Keep the column headings as they are and take care with key columns such as email addresses so your data lines up cleanly.

  5. Upload and map the columns

Upload your completed file by dragging it in or choosing it from your computer. CRMit then asks you to map each column in your file to the matching field, so it knows where every piece of information should go.

  6. Review and confirm the import

Check the preview of what will be imported. When you are happy it looks right, confirm the import and CRMit adds your records.

Tip: Import your customers before your invoices so the two link up automatically. That way each invoice attaches to the right customer from the start.

What's next

Once your data is in, dig into the record types you use most.
